Online Day Plan

  1. Learning Statement
    To the extent possible, the school will provide teacher-directed synchronous learning in which the students and teachers interact in real time on a virtual platform.

  2. Attendance Tracking
    For students working remotely on any given day, schools will look to other measures to indicate attendance. Board policies related to attendance will be reviewed and modified as necessary, with Board approval, to include any proposed changes to the attendance policy. The school will use the following metrics to measure attendance and participation.

    Measures to consider include:
    • Turning in assignments through Canvas;
    • Participation in synchronous virtual learning sessions with a general education or Special Education teacher;
    • Responding to a threaded discussion;
    • Attending a teacher’s virtual office hours for individual support;
    • Recording activities in the offline tracker in Canvas. Teachers and Staff will place phone calls to families to ensure students know instructions to log on to the online learning platform and access online assignments.

  3. Description of Equitable Access
    The school will ensure equitable access to quality education by continuing the sequence of standards taught in each course at each grade level. All support staff, such as Title I groups, will occur online for children who have been identified. Special Education students who receive services as articulated in their IEP will receive those service minutes from their intervention specialist. English language learners will receive virtual assistance from the school’s aides to help complete classwork.

  4. Notification Process
    During online days, the school will notify staff, students, and parents via email, text, and a School Messenger message as soon as the decision has been made to move to an online instructional day. Students and parents will also find information on the school’s website and social media outlets, like the Facebook page.

  5. Contacting Teachers
    Should parents have questions about accessing assignments for students, they will have access to contacting teachers via email, the parent messaging platform, or electronic learning platforms like Canvas.

  6. Description of Meeting the Needs of Staff and Students
    To meet staff’s internet connectivity and technology needs, each teacher will be provided with a laptop for instructional use with access to the online learning platform Canvas. Students will be provided with Chromebooks available for pickup by families to use during online instructional days. Students will be required to return the Chromebook on the following in-person school day.
